GKS Katowice mourns the loss of Jan Furtok, a legendary striker who scored 122 goals in 299 games. Furtok was a symbol of the club and the best scorer in GKS Katowice's history. Jan Furtok played for GKS Katowice for many years and became an integral part of the club. In 1996, he ended his career, but did not part with the club. He trained the youth, coached the first team, served as sports director, and eventually became president. Unfortunately, on Tuesday, GKS Katowice announced the sad news of Jan Furtok's death. Furtok was 62 years old and struggled with Alzheimer's disease. His wife, Anna, said last year that the disease was progressing and that Jan's memory was deteriorating. Jan Furtok also played for the Polish national team, making 37 appearances and scoring 10 goals. He was part of the team at the 1986 World Cup. The death of Jan Furtok is a huge loss for the GKS community, the city of Katowice, and the entire Polish football community. We offer our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones.
