GKS Katowice faces a pivotal challenge in their quest for European football. After spending the winter break in the relegation zone, Gieksa hopes for a strong finish to the season to climb the table. To keep these ambitious plans alive, Rafał Górak's team must secure a victory in the upcoming match against Bruk-Bet Termalika Nieciecza, scheduled for May 3, 2026.

Last week saw a slight slowdown in Katowice's pursuit of the top spots. The team drew 1:1 away against Korona Kielce, despite GKS Katowice opening the scoring. However, this draw extended Gieksa's impressive unbeaten league run to four matches, with a record of two wins and two draws.

The Katowice side now returns to their home stadium, where they have been in excellent form. In the current campaign, only Górnik Zabrze, with 31 points, has accumulated more points in front of their home crowd than GKS Katowice, who have gathered 29. Furthermore, this year, Gieksa has won five of their six home Ekstraklasa matches, drawing one, showcasing their dominance on home turf.

Bruk-Bet Termalika Nieciecza, although likely to be the first team relegated this campaign, recently showed a glimmer of hope. They staved off the unpleasant prospect with a surprising 2:1 victory over Zagłębie Lubin. This marked the first match this season where Termalika managed to turn the game around after conceding the first goal.

Termalika's away form, however, remains poor – their win against Zagłębie was their only victory in their last seven away fixtures, which also included one draw and five losses. Paradoxically, despite Nieciecza being the weakest team in the league, away matches against top-tier teams might suit them. They have won three of their six matches on the grounds of TOP 7 Ekstraklasa teams, losing the other three.

The head-to-head history favors GKS Katowice. Last season, Gieksa defeated Termalika in the Polish Cup. In the current campaign, Katowice also emerged victorious in Nieciecza, securing a convincing 3:0 win. Statistics also lean towards the hosts – Gieksa has kept five clean sheets in their last nine home Ekstraklasa matches.
