GKS Katowice has welcomed back Filip Szymczak in a surprise move. According to FootballScout, the former Polish youth international will join the club from Bukowa. For the striker, it would be a return to a place where he has already tried to rebuild his position twice. Will the phrase „three times is a charm” prove true this time? Szymczak spent last season on loan at Royal Charleroi. The move to Belgium was meant to be an opportunity for him to get out of Mikael Ishaka's shadow and prove that he can perform outside of Ekstraklasa. In practice, this move did not work out. The striker did not break into the starting lineup - in the Belgian league, he played 278 minutes, did not score a goal, and did not record an assist. It seems that he will return to Lech Poznań, but it is difficult to predict that the Polish champion will continue to believe in a fruitful partnership with Szymczak. The striker is 24 years old, has a contract with Lech until June 30, 2027, and has a reputation as a talented player who does not meet expectations. GKS Katowice knows him well. Szymczak played in Katowice first in the 2021/2022 season, still in the first league. Then he scored 11 goals in 32 league matches and left a very good impression. He also returned to GKS in the spring of 2025, after the club's promotion to Ekstraklasa. Then he scored 3 goals in 15 matches. The second episode was definitely worse, but the club seems to want to take him back. For the Katowic fans, this move is logical also from a personnel perspective. GKS after a great season and promotion to European cups must expand its squad. It quickly checks teams that have too short a bench. Szymczak does not have to be the main striker immediately, but he can give the coach an additional option - as a striker or winger. In recent weeks, his name has also appeared at Jagiellonia Białystok. Adrian Siemieniec had a positive opinion of the player, and „Jaga” was looking for successors to Afimico Pululu. It seems that GKS was the most concrete option. For Szymczak, this may be less spectacular, but a more reasonable direction. In Katowice, he will not have to start from scratch. The biggest question is the form of the transfer. Szymczak is still tied to Lech, so the clubs must determine whether we are talking about a loan, a definitive transfer, or another variant. From the point of view of „Kolejorza” it would be best to sell the striker and wish him good luck in his new club. Will this happen? Soon everything should be clear.
